Hindi is our 'Rashtra Basha' is a well known fact. But, do we know the printing of the first Indian Hindi newspaper in India? Well, that's exactly what happened on the 30th of May 1826. We can proudly state the fact that hindi newspapers existed in India for about 196 years, that is nearly two centuries ago!

As the 30th of May is observed as Hindi journalism day, let's know some relevant facts.

Udant Martand was the first publication in Hindi that was released in Calcutta on the above mentioned date. Our country was under British rule. Newspapers in vernacular language played a pivotal role during those days. The main purpose was to bring the happenings in our country and the world to every nook and corner of India. This is how, hindi journalism was born and is robust to this day!

Hindi television channels that airs news every minute and a plethora of programs dedicated to Hindi reach out to everyone in the hinter lands of our country.

The plaudits go to Pundit Jugal Kishore Shukla, the editor who began Udant Martand with only 500 copies. Journalism is considered to be the fourth most imperative pillar in any democracy. And the advent of this hindi newspaper spawned today's Hindi journalism that reaches both the masses and the classes.
