It is a hushed up issue in most of the homes and in some villages even today. Nobody is supposed to talk about it as it is considered a taboo. Yes, the issue was and is about the menstrual cycle in young girls.

The 28th of May is all about menstrual health and hygiene. Through a lot of workshops and seminars, at schools, doctors and health care workers are striving to unmask the so-called stigma of the menstrual cycle.

The pivotal role here is to educate young girls and their kin about getting periods is OK and a girl child must be aware of this.

Due to lethargic lifestyle, girls as young as 9 years are attaining puberty. Most definitely, this is worrisome as adequate care must be given to the child and everyone at home must be supportive.

Many schools welcome doctors to give the know-how to young children as it isn't an issue to hide. What are good and hygiene practices that ought to be followed during a menstrual cycle?
