A family is when people who are related to each other live under one roof. In the days of yore, there were huge structured families, where about 40 to 50 members belonging to different generations lived under one roof. Living in joint families such as these helped the family members to bond and stand by each other both during happy and challenging times. It was surely a blessing in disguise!
As our country became more industrialized, a lot of job opportunities were up for grabs. And people started to move away from the shelter of huge families.
The 15th of May is observed as the International Family Day. It is more relevant now as the concept of huge joint families are hard to find and families have gone nuclear.
As people move from villages to towns, cities and out of the country, in search of good schools, colleges and of course jobs; children of these parents are left alone. There's no one to take care of them and this in turn leads to many challenges!
As we move out of the comfort zones of elders in the family and home, care must be taken to catch up with our family members as frequently as possible. Children are to be introduced to their elders who can bequeath precious knowledge and expertise that can help them to lead normal lives and understand their roots.
